Launch ceremony of CHHAAON

Chhaoon is a collection of citizens from various backgrounds working towards improving public spaces in Karachi.

The group has been active since 2015 and has planted over 10,000 large indigenous trees in schools, universities and public spaces where a maintenance system is in place.

In September 2020 the group formalized its structure and launched ‘CHHAAON’ at the QUAID-E-AZAM’S MAZAR. The ceremony started with Members, guests and their families planting 450 trees in the forested area of the Mazar. The planting session was appreciated by the participants.

The Launch began by recitation of Surah Anaam (99) that talks about plantation; translation was read by Ar. Khadija Jamal who also conducted the proceedings.

Founder of CHHAAON Ar./ Landscape Ar. Komal Parvez presented the History , Initiatives and future projects of the group. She reiterated that Public spaces could only be improved by working in partnership with the Municipal and Government authorities.

She then introduced the Founding members of CHHAAON and awarded certificates to the student volunteers.

Prominent guests that included KMC Commissioner Dr.Saif ur Rehman, DC South Irshad Sodhar, Mrs.Aamra Javed of Shehri, Engineer Fahim Siddiqui, Mr.Salim Wahidi and Dr. Noman Ahmed were called on stage for an interesting discourse about the city.

After these proceedings the participants visited the Quaid’s museum and offered Fateha at the basement where the beloved leader is buried. The event concluded with the guard of honor and lowering of flag that was witnessed with much admiration.
